General musings…

Hi there —

Some of you are here because you want to learn how to earn a few hundred extra dollars (or more!) a month on the side. And I can help you do that, absolutely.

Some of you want to learn how to turn an idea into a profitable business… or watch me fail miserably on my attempts. That’s okay, too.

Some of you are here to learn how to cut monthly expenses and "unnecessary costs"…

And you don’t have to worry, I’m not going to lecture you with the usual poppycock about how to ‘save $200 a month by not ordering coffee at Starbucks’. If you crave Starbucks and need it every morning, then by all means, order up that Grande, sugar-free, non-fat, vanilla soy, blended, with no whipped cream, and extra caramel drizzle!

The truth is, if you’re reading this you’re probably a grown-ass adult and by now, you should have a pretty good idea of what keeps you happy and grounded.

If not, I’m going to help pinpoint a couple of key areas I think are necessary to have in order, so that we don’t feel guilty when taking business-related risks.

Which leads me to…

Building a Solid Foundation

Slow down there, playboy! Before we get into any “How to start a business”-type posts, we have to first identify a few things that get you into a good place mentally. That list can include things such as hobbies, relationships, reading, traveling, gym time, etc. — anything non-destructive!

Fortress of Solitude

Limit it to three or four.

Basically, as long as these big things are stable and present in your life, you can mentally afford to experiment and take risks in other areas, stepping outside of your comfort zone. They’re sort of like your Fortress of Solitude, if you will.

For instance, my three things are:

1. Solid relationships with friends & family
2. The wellness of my health, and…
3. That sweet, sweet nap time!

Those are the things that keep me happy and grounded.

Sure, I may drive a shitty Scion tC (There are many like it, but this one is mine.) with a few cosmetic battle scars, but she runs just fine and I don’t really care how she looks. I find more value in spending time with friends than getting a minor paint scratch buffed out. Find your priorities.

But Steve… What if I’m broke?!

Ahh
